Help-Portrait Sessions: Angelique & Kahlai

A few weeks ago I participated in a nationwide event called Help-Portrait where professional photographers find people in need and take their portraits. I found an organization called Helping Hands for Single Moms which helps single mothers obtain a college education and financial independence and contacted their coordinator to see if there would be any moms interested. I've already seen from friends and families with young children how much work it takes to raise children, and can only imagine the mountains these moms have to move on a daily basis. These ladies have all my respect and admiration for not only working hard to raise their kids, but for making a huge effort to obtain financial independence for their family.

So without further ado, a glance at one of the families who was able to make it out to the park that day for their mini-session. More to come later on this week. (Please note: only photos with permission/releases from the moms are posted.)

Angelique and Kahlai

Angelique is an amazing musician and Kahlai has quite a story of his own already for someone so young. Please visit her website, AngeliqueWhite.com, to learn more about Angelique, her music, her son Kahlai, and their struggles and successes together.

And for those of you living in the Phoenix Metro area, come out to MadCap Theaters in Tempe, Dec.17th, to hear Angelique and other artists perform to benefit St. Joseph's Hospital's Pediatric Unit. St. Joe's has been a huge part of their lives and Angelique wanted to bring attention to all the positive outcomes everyone there has brought to hers and many other families. It's a toy drive, so bring a few new toys along for the kids at St. Joe's!
