Tempe Town Lake

Last night, Drew and I took a walk around our backyard of Tempe Town Lake -which after the dam break, now looks like Tempe Town Bog. Sadly, the lake, which contained almost a billion gallons of water, could lose about 75% of its water.
What happened??? Well, 10 years ago, there were these geniuses that decided to build a dam out of rubber. A dam that was to sit in the scorching 110+ weather of Arizona. I'm not a scientist, so I guess I can't say what's best for dam building, but rubber? In any case, one of the rubber bladders burst on the west end of the dam. It had apparently not had enough water to keep it submerged and wet, thus exposing it to our hot, dry air.
Anyway, here's what our lake looks like now. :(
16ft of water, down to zero in some parts.
Everyone was out to take a look at the lake and the dam.
The water used to go all the way up to where that light's shining.
Oh well. On a more positive note, Walk-in Wednesdays were happening at Tempe Center for the Arts. We love this weekly event where local artists come in and show off their talent. And yes, there's a LOT of talented people living right here in our community!
Check out the events at TCA & stop by one day!
And I have to end with a solo photo of this chair bathed in spotlight. Love it.

San Diego New Children's Museum

Last week, I discovered a gigantic 3-story playground at the San Diego New Children's Museum. My good photographer friend, Daisy Varley, really wanted me to check this place out, so we went with her two seriously adorable little girls and had a blast!
I love this ginormous Trojan horse. You can even go inside and tell your kids a mini-story about the Greeks and the Trojan War. =)
Here's Sophia doing ballet moves while we were inside the horse. Was that what the Greeks were doing?
Chariot riding downstairs.
We made clay animals.
So did a lot of other kids it seems.
Gianna had a great time just hanging out with her mom.
There was rope climbing.
Some people even sing while they're on it.
Rock climbing.
I love this picture Daisy took of me & Sophie. She had fallen a bit from rock climbing and I was trying to tickle her so she wouldn't cry. Worked like a charm.
Bubbles!
We painted butterflies.
And Daisy put them up on the tree.
We listened to all kinds of sounds on the headphones.
And then played pretend with these monster bugs.
This is the barnyard we all danced in before the museum closed. The lights were set low. I teased Sophia about her new "boyfriend".
I love the wallpaper and plates for the light switches.
There was so much more to do, but we just didn't have the time. If you have kids and are in San Diego, take them here! I'd come here even if I didn't have kids with me, but that would be weird. Thank goodness for Sophia!

Dao Family Portrait Session

Some of you may remember Galen & Lanie from previous years' posts. Their engagement session in San Diego was a blast and so was their wedding in Orange County. Now these two have made one of the cutest babies ever and I'm glad we were finally able to get a family session in for them. Here's my baby nephew Sean with his mom and dad! =)
Sean is so hip!
He was really excited when we gave him this gigantic lollipop.
Gnawing away...
Galen wanted to make sure he didn't chew through the plastic. Sean was not happy...taking candy from a baby!
"Why, Dad?!!!!! Why'd you do that to me??!!"
Kisses didn't work.
We had to give him his candy back. Now he looks at us all with suspicious eyes.
Someone's all better now!
And the picture that makes me smile the most...
