The Family Visit

My parents and sister came over for the holidays which which I'm grateful for because they made things feel more Christmasy here since Drew & I weren't able to go anywhere far during the week. It's always nice to have family around during this time of the year. Their visit opened up new doors because it got me to explore some parts of my new hometown that I've never been seen before. (You know how it goes. When you live somewhere, you never really visit the touristy spots until you have a reason, i.e., guests.)

Here are a few of the spots that we left our footprints at last week.

The obligatory trip up to Scottsdale. We wandered around the library park and then to Old Town.

My parents were also good sports. =)

Drew's so used to posing for the camera now that I think he starting to take his second job a little too seriously.

I also took them to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West. When I was in college, I wasn't a fan and thought his buildings were weird, but at this point in my life, I greatly admire his work, ingenuity, and love for experimentation.

After leaving Taliesin West and driving thru the Scottsdale neighborhoods, my mom ooohed and ahhhed at the homes we drove by. No love for FLW! Ah well.

The man apparently had a love with Asian art. There were Asian influences sprinkled throughout the place. My sister included.

Origami chairs. Cool to look at. Reason for the design: he didn't want anyone getting too comfortable in his house.
Photobucket

Yeah, that doesn't look too comfortable.

There's a hole cut in the glass just for this vase. Why? Because FLW liked where it sat & didn't want it moved. So if there's gotta be glass there, well then cut a hole for my vase!

He had a garden of sculptures by Heloise Crista.

This one was my favorite.

So this post was written during commercial breaks while I was watching the Notebook & crying my eyes out. Now it's 1am and I gotta get some shut-eye. The rest of the family excursion to Goldfield Ghost Town in the next post. Good nite!

Christmas Day

Someone just couldn't wait to open her present. Amazingly, her head was laying right on it!

Paradise Lost. And other ramblings.

1. Paradise Lost

I just saw this show on PBS called Paradise Lost. They talk about the global climate change and how it's affecting the Pacific island nation of Kiribati. It's sad to see how this country of 100,000 fear for the livelihood of their land and their lives. The sea levels have risen to alarming levels, contaminating their drinking wells, forcing them to rebuild homes & churches that have been swallowed up by the sea.

What's unfair is that their way of life doesn't harm the environment, yet they must suffer the consequences of larger, more powerful nations' negative impact on the environment. The special talks of how the people of Kiribati could be the first climate change refugees. It's crazy to think how we got to this point and scary to think of what the future holds for these people. Watch this if you have a little time on your hands: Paradise Lost.

2. Winners!!!

Congratulations to Jennifer, Nichole, and Mandy for being the first three ladies to contact me about my holiday special! The session fee from their boudoir shoots will go to one of three charities of their choice: The Red Cross, Aid to Artisans, or the World Food Program. I'm excited to see which organizations they pick and am looking forward to their sessions next year. Wow, I can't believe this year is almost over!

3. Lockett Meadow. Revisited.

After our first trip to Lockett Meadow, Drew & I vowed to go back to catch the aspen leaves turn gold. We were about 2 weeks late though. Most of the leaves had already fallen on the ground, leaving bare trees standing. Still beautiful in their own way.

The Goodfellows. Part II

I didn't want to overload everyone with high dosages of cuteness from the Goodfellow girls, so I had to break their session up into two postings. Here are the rest of the images of these little darlin's.

From the session, I could tell how great a mom Judy is. She knows exactly what to say & how to say it so that her girls listen to her. I'll be calling her in the future if I bear rascals. Heh heh!

Their dog, Bailey, was super friendly. Again, that little voice in my head is telling me to get a dog!

Tim is in the midst of building his girls a playhouse in the backyard. It's already a fun place to hang out apparently. =)
Photobucket

Ok, get ready & brace yourselves.

I thought I had wanted a boy for my first kid (like I have control over that or something), but this session & these girls are making me feel otherwise. Thanks Tim, Judy, Alexis, & Macy for allowing me a little sneak peek into your lives & all the joy that's in it.
